EDLD 5313 Creating Significant Learning Environments

This page showcases my work from EDLD 5313 – Creating Significant Learning Environments, a course focused on applying constructivist theories to design meaningful, student-centered digital learning experiences. Throughout the course, I explored how shifting to a holistic approach enhances engagement and promotes lasting learning. The projects featured here demonstrate how I developed a personal learning philosophy, applied the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework, and created strategies that foster growth mindsets and significant learning environments.

Aligning Outcomes Assessment and Activities

This project outlines a leadership development module designed for new Surgical Technology Program Directors. It includes a full analysis of the learning environment, significant learning goals, and a detailed three-column course design based on Fink’s model. The goal is to provide a clear, structured framework that supports effective, confident, and accreditation-aligned leadership in Surgical Technology education.

UbD Template

This project showcases my Understanding by Design (UbD) planning for the STEP Program Director Leadership Training Module. It includes a complete backward-designed curriculum along with a reflective analysis comparing the UbD and Fink design frameworks. Together, these components demonstrate how intentional course design supports effective onboarding and long-term leadership development for new Surgical Technology Program Directors.

Developing a Growth Mindset

Developing a genuine growth mindset is essential for cultivating resilient, reflective, and confident learners in Surgical Technology and for preparing future program directors through the STEP Program. This work highlights how mindset, meaningful feedback, supportive learning environments, and strategic perseverance come together to promote continuous growth and professional excellence. By fostering a true learner’s mindset, we empower students and new educators to embrace challenges, adapt to feedback, and thrive in the dynamic demands of healthcare education.
